R. Perry Beaver Scholarship

Scholarship Description

R. Perry Beaver served as Principal Chief of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation from 1996 to 2004. Beaver also served two terms as Second Chief. Beaver graduated from Morris High School and later attended Murray State College in Tishomingo and the University of Louisiana at Monroe earning the Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics. Beaver was named a football All-American at Murray State College and All-Conference at the University of Louisiana. Later on, Beaver played football for the Green Bay Packers. Beaver also earned the Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond and further attended Northeastern Oklahoma State University in Tahlequah. Similarly, Beaver had a successful coaching and academic career at Jenks High School. In 1991, Beaver retired from Jenks High School where he also served as the Director of Indian Education. Additionally, Beaver earned several sports awards including the 1974 Tulsa World Coach of the Year, the Oklahoma High School Coaches Hall of Fame, the University of Louisiana at Monroe Hall of Fame, and the American Indian Athletic Hall of Fame. Beaver and his wife, Mariam live in Jenks; they have four adult children.

Purpose and Application of Funds

The purpose of this scholarship is to financially assist Muscogee (Creek) students who might not otherwise have the financial means to further their education. This scholarship award can be utilized to pay for the required cost of tuition, fees, books, tools, supplies, testing or examination fees, transportation, or other incidental required cost related to the cost of the post-secondary education institution. This scholarship is to be awarded to a Muscogee (Creek) student who is attending an institution of higher education, a technical or vocational trade school, and interested in tribal government.

Eligibility Guidelines

1. Must be an enrolled citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.

2. Must be currently attending an institution of higher education or enrolled as a first-time entering student.

3. Must demonstrate financial need.

4. Must agree to authorize the Scholarship Foundation Program to publicize the scholarship award if selected.
